1 Samuel 6:13

Now the people of Beth Shemesh were harvesting their wheat in the valley, and they looked up and saw the ark, they rejoiced at the sight. (1 Samuel 6:13)

"Imagine being an Israelite, doing their harvesting, feeling defeated that they lost the ark of God, probably having that feeling God was dead. Then out of nowhere, they see these two cows from the distance without a driver heading towards them! And then they see something glistening---it's...the ark of the God! They thought that God was dead, but turns out, He is alive! (Even though God never died) But they were feeling that defeat, and now they can rejoice!" (David Guzik)

Wow, this is so beautiful! Even though the Israelites had failed God, here He is. Being the One Who returned to them! Did the Israelites even try to find the ark, or did they just give up? Regardless, God remained faithful to them! (Jalein Abania)
- X Ref: "If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Who He is." (2 Timothy 2:13)

X Ref: "So he (prodigal son) returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him." (Luke 15:20)

Thinking about this parable with what happened to the Israelites at Beth Shemesh, God's beautiful and forgiving love is palpable; so much grace, love, humility, faithfulness, mercy, joy, tenderness, and deep compassion held in these silent moments, before that moment of realization really hit! Wow. It really is a reminder for us that He casts our sins far, encouraging/commanding us to do better and sin no more. (Jalein Abania)

God's return symbolized by the ark of the covenant being carried on a cart pulled by these two cows is a symbol of His grace. The Israelites did nothing to deserve this. When God makes a promise to Himself, that means He is being good to fulfill His promises, not because of our "deeds". (Jalein Abania)
- X Ref: "God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

"Valley" #6010, "emeq" - primarily refers to a valley or lowland area. In the Biblical context, valleys are significant geographical features that served as locations for battles, agricultural activities, and settlements. (Bible Hub, Interlinear)
- Wait...are the Israelites in this valley to also symbolize where they were spiritually? Hmmmm.... (Jalein Abania)
- Bible Hub says that valleys typically have good, fertile soil and access to water. So reading this made me think about how when we find ourselves in a valley, when we stay there, it can be easy to get comfortable and be like, "Well....this is it, I guess. I think I should be okay here." It is easy to settle, because there's more resistance when we try to get out. BUT--God is our strength and just like how He showed up for the Israelites, He's going to show up for us! However, it is up to us whether we take His hand or not to keep fighting and moving forward. (Jalein Abania)
